The Employment and Labor Law Practice Group of Nexsen Pruet law firm will present free breakfast briefings to update human resources professionals on the important differences between employees and independent contractors.
“Misclassifying individuals can trigger major liabilities under tax, employment and labor laws,” said David Dubberly, an employment attorney at Nexsen Pruet. “Knowing the difference between employees and independent contractors is an essential part of effectively managing a business and taking care of legal responsibilities.”
Dubberly, a Certified Employment and Labor Law Specialist, will lead the seminars with help from Nexsen Pruet tax attorney, Mike Brittingham.
Issues to be discussed include:
· Who is an employee and who is a contractor?
· Why do these issues matter to your business, the IRS, the EEOC, and the NLRB?
· How do these issues impact employee benefit plans?
