Burnie Maybank Honored By S.C. Assoc. of Auditors, Treasurers, & Tax Collectors

COLUMBIA, SC - Burnet (Burnie) R. Maybank, III, a Member in Nexsen Pruet's Columbia office, has been awarded the prestigious L.H. "Sonny" Siau Award of Excellence by the South Carolina Association of Auditors, Treasurers, and Tax Collectors (SCATT).

The award acknowledges Maybank's "many years of dedication and loyalty to the association and to the people of the State of South Carolina as a tireless proponent of fair property taxation, a faithful friend and comrade, a true statesman."

Maybank, who served as director of the Department of Revenue under Governor Mark Sanford and Governor David Beasley, focuses his practice on economic development, state and local tax controversy matters, and alcohol beverage control issues.

"This is another honor in a career of honors for Burnie," said Leighton Lord, chairman of the board of Nexsen Pruet. "It's good to see his contributions to South Carolina - and to South Carolinians - continue to get the recognition they truly deserve."

Maybank has held a number of government positions in a public service career that spans nearly two decades. He served as legal counsel to Gov. Carroll Campbell; as a commissioner on the S.C. Public Service Commission; as a member of the board of the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control; and as deputy securities commissioner and general counsel in the S.C. Secretary of State's Office. He also served as the lead co-author of many economic development incentive bills passed by the General Assembly.

He has twice been awarded the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina's highest civilian honor, from Governor Campbell and Governor Beasley
